TSC Intern Teachers Confirmation into permanent and Pensionable Terms
The Teachers Service Commission employed more than 20,000 intern instructors in the month of February 2023.
Many of these teachers were sent to junior high and high schools around the country to oversee the competency-based curriculum (for students in grade 7).
The commission estimates that these teacher interns won’t get their applications for permanent, pensionable posts accepted for more than two years.
This implies that their predicted ratification into permanent terms is 2025.
The CEO of the teachers’ employer indicated that an astounding Ksh4.7 billion shillings will be required for teacher recruitment.
The severe teacher shortage has led to the recruitment of teachers under internship terms as opposed to permanent and pensionable terms.
TSC asserts that due to the restricted budget, it would be expensive to hire that many professors on long-term contracts.

Dr. Macharia claims that these teachers will finally be confirmed to permanently replace those teachers who have left the service owing to natural attrition with pension benefits.
The TSC head also assured the public that the standards and calibre of instruction in our kenyan schools will not be compromised in the slightest and confirmed that every intern teacher is qualified.
The budget policy statement for 2023–2024 included ksh322 billion for the employer of teachers.
TSC began hiring instructors for internships back in 2019.
Internship instructors are often given preference once TSC announces recruiting since the board might elect to offer them a whopping additional 30 points, which would indicate that TSC guaranteed them jobs.
All primary school teachers who are interning currently receive Sh. 15,000.The equivalent for secondary school students is sh 20,000 per month.
Note that regulatory deductions may be made from the amounts mentioned above.
According to the TSC CEO, the majority of JSS instructors have not received their full back pay. The commission, however, disclosed plans to fully pay out their back debts in June 2023.
