TSC Fails To Automatically Absorb Intern Teachers For The Second Year In A Row
Interns will have to battle it out with other unemployed teachers as the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) failed to automatically absorb them into the service in July 2021
In the recruitment advert announced by the teachers’ employer on Tuesday 29th, 2021, TSC will employ 4,000 secondary school teachers and an extra 1,000 will be deployed from p1 graduate teachers to high school.
TSC has also published an advertisement of 2,987 vacancies for Primary and 927 vacancies for Secondary Schools to replace those who exited service.
TSC however did not clarify the fate of intern teachers currently working for one year contract. In 2020, the commission similarly failed to automatically confirm intern teachers and instead awarded them 10 marks for serving under internship.
Some interns were locked out as they could not battle out other candidates who also had other advantages like the year of graduation and the qualities of their academic papers.
TSC is yet to issue its official recruitment guidelines capturing the score sheet revealing the marks to be awarded during the recruitment exercise.
This will be released in July when the vacancies/slots available in each school for both secondary and primary will be released.
Intern teachers who missed employment last year were given another
one-year contract in the service. There have been requests for the teacher’s employer to automatically confirm intern teachers without subjecting them to further recruitment exercise.
