TSC Concludes Recruitment of Intern Teachers, Starts Deployment

TSC Starts Deploying Intern Teachers As Hiring Ends

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has recently finished the selection process for intern teachers to be placed in junior secondary institutions. TSC advertised a total of 20,000 teacher internship positions to support the implementation of competency-based curricula.

Out of these, 18,000 positions were for Junior Secondary Schools, while 2,000 were designated for Primary Schools.

Candidates needed to fulfill specific criteria in order to be considered for recruitment. First and foremost, they were required to be Kenyan citizens as a fundamental requirement.

Additionally, candidates had to possess a diploma in education and achieve a notable academic performance of at least a mean grade of C+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.

Moreover, candidates were expected to have obtained a C+ (plus) grade in two teaching subjects during their KCSE examinations. A vital condition was that candidates should be officially registered teachers with the Teachers Service Commission, signifying their professional status and eligibility for participation in the internship program.

This stringent set of prerequisites aimed to guarantee that chosen candidates were not only academically qualified but also formally endorsed by the education governing body, thus ensuring a certain level of competence and professionalism among the intern teachers.

Ready for Deployment

Fredrick Nganga, the director of TSC in Murang’a County, revealed that a total of 635 newly recruited teachers in the county will be distributed to 514 public primary schools housing junior secondary sections.

Ng’ang’a stated that these newly hired instructors are scheduled to start reporting to their designated schools on September 1. Upon arrival, they will undergo a brief training and orientation period.

Schools with a single stream will be assigned one teacher, while those with multiple streams will receive an additional teacher. After the deployment, TSC will assess whether there is a shortage of teachers in the junior high schools.

In the initial phase, the TSC hired and allocated 788 teachers to junior secondary schools within Murang’a County.

Ng’ang’a emphasized, “As we deploy the teachers, we are also taking into consideration the specific subject combinations required in each respective school.”
