TSC Circular on Training Aimed at Picking OCS in Each School

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is gearing up to provide training for teachers responsible for offering career guidance within their respective schools. Numerous TSC County Directors have already adhered to a TSC memo, which mandates them to guide school principals in establishing an Office of Career Services (OCS) in their schools.

The Commission stipulates that schools must designate a teacher to oversee the Office of Career Services. These designated teachers (OCS’s) will subsequently participate in training sessions organized by the TSC in their respective counties.

Below is a memorandum from TSC addressed to all County Directors, bearing reference number TSC/DQAS/MEMOS/CD/40/VOLII/89, dated August 16, 2023, regarding the Office of Career Services.

RE: OFFICE OF CAREER SERVICES

The State Department for Labour and Skills Development has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing skills development across various sectors, establishing and managing the institutional framework for connecting industry skills development and training, as per Executive Order No. 1 of 2021.

Aligned with its mandate, the Department is committed to promoting career guidance to reduce skill mismatches, enhance school-to-work transitions, improve employability, facilitate labor mobility, and reintegrate marginalized and at-risk groups into the realms of education and the labor market.

In line with these objectives, the Department has formulated the National Policy Framework, leading to the establishment of Offices of Career Services (OCS) at numerous educational levels, including universities, national polytechnics, technical vocational centers, primary, and secondary institutions.

As per this memo, you are tasked with ensuring that:

(a) All institutions under your jurisdiction establish an Office of Career Service and appoint a teacher to coordinate OCS activities.

(b) Community Service Learning (CSL) is taught in accordance with the approved curriculum.

Kindly disseminate this directive to all institution administrators and provide feedback to the County Director’s office by September 10, 2023.
