TSCÂ Ask Schools To Deploy Teachers To Career Guidance Offices
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued a directive regarding the establishment of the Office of Career Services (OCS) in all public schools. This directive aims to address the issue of skill mismatch among students by providing career guidance.
According to an Internal Memo dated August 16, 2023, and signed by the acting Director of Quality Assurance and Standards, Peter Kega, the Commission has instructed all Regional Directors to ensure that every institution within their jurisdiction establishes an Office of Career Services (OCS) and appoints a teacher to oversee its operations.
Furthermore, TSC Regional Directors have been tasked with disseminating this information to County and Sub-County Directors within their respective areas of responsibility. They are also responsible for ensuring that Community Service Learning (CSL) is integrated into the curriculum as per the approved guidelines.

This directive from the Commission aligns with the commitment of the State Department for Labour and Skills Development to enhance career guidance. The goal is to reduce skill mismatches, facilitate smoother school-to-work transitions, improve employability, and reintegrate marginalized and at-risk groups into the education and labor market. These objectives are to be achieved through the implementation of the National Policy Framework for Career Guidance in Kenya and the National Monitoring and Evaluation Reporting Framework on Office of Career Services, both of which are developed by the State Department, entrusted with overseeing skills development, and managing the institutional framework for connecting industry skills development and training.
