Thiago Silva tried to bring ‘special’ eg-player back to Chelsea during Arsenal spell
Thiago Silva attempted to bring something’special.’ During his time at Arsenal, Willian returned to Chelsea.
Thiago Silva has stated that near the end of his time at Arsenal, he attempted to bring the’special’ Willian back to Chelsea.
Willian played seven seasons at Stamford Bridge, appearing in over 300 games for the Blues before moving to north London in 2020.
During his time at Chelsea, he won two Premier League titles, the Europa League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup, but he struggled to make an impact at Arsenal.
Willian had just been at the Emirates for a year when he agreed to terminate his lucrative deal in order to join his boyhood club, Corinthians.
Following another brief stay in Brazil, the 34-year-old is now back in the Premier League with Fulham, where he scored against Chelsea last month.
Chelsea defender Silva heaped admiration on his’special’ compatriot ahead of the return match on Friday night, revealing he wanted to lure him back to Stamford Bridge while he was at Arsenal.

‘Willian is special,’ Silva told ESPN Brazil. ‘I have a special affection for this kid, as a player and off the pitch as a person.
Before he left for Corinthians, I tried to bring him back [to Chelsea], but unfortunately things didn’t advance, they didn’t work.
‘I knew he was a very important player. In our first game [against Fulham], he scored a goal against us, he’s having important performances with Fulham.
‘Hopefully on Friday he will be calmer.’
Willian has two goals and two assists in 14 Premier League games this season, guiding Fulham to seventh place in the table.
On Friday, Marco Silva’s team will go to Chelsea, who are now 10th in the Premier League and 10 points off of the Champions League places.
‘Tomorrow hopefully we can go there and get at least one point,’ Willian said ahead of the west London derby.
‘But the main thing is to always – whether we’re at home or away – play to win the game. That’s what we want.’
