The Blues Adds Another Exciting Player to Roster with Surprising Second Deadline Day Signing
Enzo Fernandez was not the only transfer deadline day addition for Chelsea.
Jimmy-Jay Morgan, a highly touted 17-year-old prospect, was signed by Chelsea from Southampton on the final day of the transfer window, despite minimal attention of the transaction. The Blues are expected to pay the Saints a large compensation fee for the highly-rated adolescent, who is now widely considered as one of the brightest young talents in English football.
Morgan decided against signing a professional contract with Southampton to pursue a transfer, and Chelsea ultimately won the bidding war for his talents.

Although the Blues were negotiating a club-record £107 million deal for Enzo Fernandez, they were still on the lookout for Morgan after hearing he was available.
Arsenal, Leeds, and Manchester City were also rumored to be interested in the striker, but Chelsea beat their trade rivals to a deal.
Chelsea was able to sign Morgan despite the fact that he had 18 months remaining on his scholarship contract; they are now preparing to welcome him to their famed youth program at Cobham.
Prior to Southampton’s FA Cup victory over Blackpool, manager Nathan Jones had indicated that he was prepared to give the player his senior debut.
Recent events, however, caused Jones to overlook the adolescent, and the player has now been transferred as his stint on the South Coast abruptly comes to an end.
“Jimmy [Jimmy-Jay Morgan] is a fantastic player with a bright future if he picks the right choices and the people that are working with him handle him well and if we work him in training and develop him into the right level,” Jones said last week.
“If it’s right for us tomorrow to put a youngster in, we’ll do it. What we won’t do is put anyone in gratuitously.
” They have to earn it, they have to be ready. When they do and they get their opportunities, we’d like them to take it, so we’ll see.”
Although the compensation amount has yet to be determined, the Blues spent a staggering £323 million in the January transfer window, more than the entirety of the Premier League in the 2022 winter transfer window.
Following a sluggish start to life in west London following his September appointment, Graham Potter will now be under growing pressure to deliver.
Todd Boehly has lavished enormous sums of money on promising young players, such as Fernandez, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos, and David Datuto Fofana.
There are no indications that he will slow down in future transfer markets as he attempts to create a competitive club for the present and the future.
The purchase of Morgan is part of Chelsea’s ambitious future plans, and the young forward will likely join the club’s U21 or U23 squad.
This season, he has scored four goals in eight Premier League 2 appearances for the Saints and appeared three times in the Football League Trophy.
