Term 3 2023 Updated Calendar of Events For All Schools
The Ministry of Education has recently released the School Calendar for Term 3 of 2023, which encompasses all learning institutions, including primary and secondary schools in Kenya.
For primary learners, the commencement of Term 1 in 2023 is scheduled for the 23rd of January, spanning a duration of 13 weeks and concluding on the 21st of April, across all schools.
Term 3, 2023 is anticipated to be the shortest term of the year, with learners spending only about 2 months in school to prepare for the national examinations. Consequently, this term is set to begin on the 28th of August and extend until the 3rd of November, covering a maximum of 10 weeks.
The National examinations, namely KCPE and KCSE, are slated to commence in November 2023. KCPE examinations will take place from the 6th to the 9th of November 2023, while KCSE examinations are expected to run from the 11th of November to the 1st of December 2023.

Following the examinations, the marking of the national examinations will commence on the 4th of December and conclude on the 22nd of December 2023.
This adjustment in term dates, as per the Ministry’s announcement, is aimed at normalizing the school calendar, which experienced disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya.
Stakeholders in education consultations resulted in revised term dates to cover the remaining two terms of the previous 2020 school calendar and to stabilize the school calendar by December 2022.
Please note that these term dates apply to all public and private primary and secondary institutions across the country.
