Teachers To Report To School On Monday. Schools Reopening

Teachers have been called to report back to schools between now and on Monday next week to make arrangements learners resume classes in October. The task force committee has announced. 

"I want to ask teachers to report to work as from September 28th. I believe our teachers are ready and can start even reporting from today," said the Teachers Service Commission TSC boss Nancy Macharia.

The national education stakeholders held a meeting today to have a look at the tabled considerations and decided to enact the proposal that schools be reopened next month in October for the term 2 arrangements. 

 

Nevertheless, the Education CS George Magoha announced that the recommendations by the committee will be taken before a bigger committee after which he will announce the official date for school’s re-opening.

 

On reopening, teachers will be instructed to finalize the remaining classwork before the national examinations kickoff in April 2021. Teachers and Board of Management members will be guided through the Covid-19 protocols.

The Stakeholders have agreed on a timetable on basic education academic calendar that will be shared with necessary stakeholders before it can be released.

Precaution measures such as availability of sanitizers and running water are expected to have been met a week before students report to schools. Thermo guns will be provided during this period as well as the face masks for each learner.

The covid19 awareness creation will take place on the 2nd of October by the Ministry of Education officials from TSC and will target all education staffs, Board of Management and school heads. The institution's response committee will extend the awareness to learners.

The institution's respond committee will also conduct psychosocial and mental health programs for teachers, workers and learners. upon reopening of schools. The sub-county response committee will champion the linkage between schools and health facilities.

Temporary isolation rooms will be set by the schools upon reopening. The meeting going on today will include secondary and primary school representatives, private school managers, religious leaders, TSC, parents association, Ministry of Education and KNEC.
