Teachers Salary to Delay further as TSC talks Resume tomorrow
The negotiations regarding salary adjustments between the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Teachers’ unions are scheduled to recommence tomorrow.
The participating parties have expressed optimism about their progress in narrowing down their disparities and are hopeful of reaching a mutually agreeable settlement. Nonetheless, the Teachers’ unions have declined the proposal put forth by the TSC, which suggests an increase ranging from 2.4 percent to 9 percent.
Instead, the unions are advocating for a more substantial wage raise, ranging from 7 percent to 10 percent, for teachers.
Omboko Milemba, who holds the position of Chairman within the Kenya Union Of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), is now urging for the intervention of the president to help mediate and bring about a resolution to the ongoing deadlock.

“We engaged in swift discussions with the Teacher Service Commission last week, and our negotiations are set to conclude on Monday. We encountered a minor setback during our interactions due to a discrepancy between the promised seven to ten percent increment for the welfare of teachers and all Kenyan workers, and the actual proposed figures that we encountered upon our arrival.
Instead of the promised increments, we encountered figures of 2.4 percent and 9.5 percent, as opposed to 7 percent and 10 percent respectively. This is what led to our disagreement. However, we held another meeting with them on Friday, and we are in the process of bridging these gaps.
Our only request is that the smaller subset of teachers who are receiving the most marginal increments be granted the intended raise,” explained Omboko Milemba.
