Teachers In Job Group C2 to Receive Boosted Salaries
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is the only Commission in Kenya that is mandated to recruit, promote, and transfer teachers from one working station to another. The Commission, currently under the leadership of Dr. Nancy Macharia, has been working diligently to ensure fair compensation for teachers.
Teaching as a career is one of the courses in Kenya that demands commitment, patience, and hard work. Many students who excel to universities often choose teaching as a last resort because it may not be their preferred profession.
However, there seems to be a shift in attitude towards the teaching profession. Teaching is gradually becoming a more marketable course in universities, as a majority of students in Kenyan universities are now pursuing teaching as their career path.

This shift is even more encouraging in light of recent developments, with the Kenya Union for Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) advocating for the Teachers Service Commission to raise the newly recruited teachers’ salaries.
According to the Union, the lowest-paid teacher in secondary school currently earns 34,959 shillings. This remuneration is deemed inadequate for teachers who work tirelessly to educate students.
KUPPET has proposed that TSC should consider raising teachers’ salaries from the current 34,959 to 74,259, representing a significant 70% increase. If the commission accedes to the Union’s demands, it is likely that teaching will become a highly sought-after career in Kenyan universities.
