Confusion has disrupted the leadership of the Technical Vocational and Education Training (TVET) due to the appointment of two individuals to the same role.
Both Dr. Meshack Opwora and John Tuwei, the Deputy Director of Technical Education, have been assigned tasks associated with the TVET national director position.
In a recent incident, Mr. Tuwei participated in a capacity-building meeting for TVET Principals and was introduced as the Director for Technical Education.
This occurred despite an earlier communication confirming Dr. Opwora’s position in the same role. Despite messages affirming Dr. Opwora’s reinstatement, Tuwei was presented as the Director at an event.
Dr. Opwora’s predicament seems to have originated from his perceived proximity to President William Ruto before the 2022 elections. This led to his temporary removal and subsequent reinstatement once Hon. Machogu assumed Ministry leadership. Nevertheless, Dr. Opwora’s challenges appear to persist.
Possessing a PhD in TVET from the University of Newcastle, Australia, along with a Master’s in Education from the University of Nairobi, Dr. Opwora has effectively served as TVET Director since 2018.
TVET encompasses a wide array of educational and training levels related to various sectors. It employs both formal and informal learning approaches, aligning with Kenya’s economic transformation agenda.
