Students to Apply Annually for University Loans and Scholarships

Geoffery Monari, CEO of University Funds, has declared that students will need to apply for loans and scholarships annually. During a meeting with the National Assembly’s Education Committee, Monari explained that this change will aid in assessing college eligibility and responsible budgeting, especially for those who change their courses.

Monari emphasized the significance of yearly applications, particularly when students experience personal changes or pass away during their studies. Staying updated about enrollment and personal shifts, such as family dynamics, is crucial to assess eligibility for financial aid.

Students lacking National Identification Cards must provide a KCSE index number and birth certificate when applying. Ezekiel Machogu clarified that loans are a contractual agreement with the Higher Education Loans Board; however, disbursement for those without Identity Cards will await their submission.

After categorization under the New Funding Model, scholarships will be sent to the institution, while the HELB Loan will be held until a National Identification Card is provided.

Universities and colleges are aware and expected to comply. According to HELB CEO Charles Ringera, students will be informed of their categorization next week to determine their tuition fees.
