On Thursday, July 27, a night fire destroyed a dorm at Ndururi High School, leaving more than 200 pupils stranded.

A first responder from Emergency Plus medical services stated there were no fatalities from the incident in a conversation with our team.

According to the source, there were no significant injuries. Two people were sent to Nyahururu CRH, but a third had to be taken to Ol Jabet hospital in Nyahururu town.

The respondent stated that some students required treatment after losing consciousness due to smoke and shock.

Samson Mburugo, the director of education for Nyahururu Sub County, claims that the building was completely deslitroyed by fire that started just before 9 o’clock in the evening when pupils were still enrolled in class.

“When the fire started, the principal and vice principal called the Nyahururu OCS and other first responders. Fire departments from Laikipia and Ol Kalou arrived at the school and made an effort to put out the fire. Unfortunately, many things belonging to students have been lost, said the sub-county director.

Mburugo thanked the participants for their support and emphasised that the institution and the county administration were working to identify the fire’s origin.

Parents have since received mails from Ndururi High School telling them of the event at the school.

There were no injuries despite the fact that nothing might have been saved because the fire broke out while pupils were in their classes for evening preps. We’re still looking into what started the fire, and we’ll let you know as we have more information. Part of the message was read.

On Friday, July 28, the Ndururi High School board convened in an emergency session to discuss the institution’s future. In order to give the kids time to heal from their trauma, the BOM decided to close the school indefinitely. Every parent was given the information.

A dormitory at St. Mary’s Girls Thigio Secondary School in Kiambu County caught fire on Saturday, July 22, leaving over 90 pupils trapped.

On Sunday, April 9 at around the same time, two schools in Western also caught fire.

Buildings at Kivaywa Boys High School and St. Peter’s Boys High School, both in Kakamega County’s Mumias, were completely destroyed by the fires.
