SRC Wants Stagnation Of Teachers Be Resolved In The New 2021-2025 CBA

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has assured to address the stagnation of teachers at job group L (C3) for nearly 20 years with diploma holders being the most affected.

Most teachers in this category have expressed their fear that they may retire while under the same job group if the commission will do nothing about the situation.

This lot has been forgotten for years even by their unions. In the 2017-2021 CBA, diploma teachers were neglected and this is what SRC wants to be reconsidered in the new 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) had petitioned the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), but the matter could easily not be resolved considered that it was KUPPET that signed the debated CBA.

But SRC believes that discriminatory salary differences spark low morale and diminished productivity, creating a thirst for salary increment and useless labour unrests.

“Disparities in pay for workers with similar qualifications, skills, and incomparable occupations, contradict the principles of equal pay for work of equal value,” states the guidelines.

It is consequently apparent that SRC wants the 2021-2025 CBA to resolve the subject of job group L stagnation completely.
