SRC Updated ECDE Teachers Salary scales
According to a clarification provided by the Salary & Remuneration Commission, SRC, teachers and caregivers in the field of early childhood development and education (ECDE) can now view the full details of their salary.
According to the Salaries Review Commission, these teachers shouldn’t receive a salary of at least Ksh7,000 per month.
Compensation Information for Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) Professionals
The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) would like to alert the public to inaccurate media coverage of the Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) Salary Structure.
These studies indicate that ECDE educators’ pay is below the minimum wage set by the federal government. Since the reports were based on the basic income rather than the gross salary, they were misleading.
The SRC says that in December 2021, it suggested a gross salary of between Ksh 13,211 and Ksh 14,092 for individuals in Cluster 4 (other places) and between Ksh 14,961 and Ksh 15,842 for the lowest cadre of ECDE instructors in Nairobi (Cluster 1).
This advice took into account the affordability and long-term viability of county governments’ pay obligations.
In response to a request from county governments, the SRC clarified the pay and benefits of ECDE teachers on January 13, 2023.
As part of the third pay review cycle, the SRC is now reviewing the salaries of all public employees, including ECDE teachers. The results are anticipated in June 2023.

The Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC) was established under Article 230 of Chapter 12 of the Kenyan Constitution of 2010. The State SRC is in charge of the following two main duties:
a) setting and evaluating the compensation and perks for all State officers.
b) advising local and national governments on the compensation and benefits of other public employees.
