The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Honorable Wilson Sossion’s tenure at the rudder now stands on trembling grounds following his friend-turned-opponent Mr. Stanley Mutai succeeded in capturing the Kericho branch post.
Mr. Mutai has already set his eyes on the KNUT Secretary General’s post. He garnered 312 votes to defeat Sossion’s favored candidate Anne Chepkoech, who accumulated 294 votes in the hotly disputed election in which Sossion unsuccessfully endeavored to determine the office bearers.
The election took place after the Nakuru Labour and Relations court threw out a suit filed by Hon Sossion seeking to block Mutai and other branch leaders from competing in the election over corruption accusations and his expected retirement date in June 2021.
In his conquest speech after the Kericho election held at Kericho Teachers Training College, Mutai announced a head-on war against Sossion.
“My relationship with Sossion is irreparable. I will fight with him properly. The lies against me that I stole the union bus and plots have come to an end today,” he said.
While announcing his plan to unseat Sossion from the SG seat in the forthcoming union election, Mutai said new leadership was needed to rebuild KNUT to its former glory.
“Sossion ceased being a trade unionist a long time ago. The time has come to return the back to the teachers. Brother Sossion has lost it terribly. He has brought the union to its lowest ebb,” he said.
