Paulo Dybala has been extensively linked with a move to the Premier League for several years, but no transfer has occurred.

Thiago Silva has approved Paulo Dybala’s transfer to Chelsea this summer. The 29-year-old forward has been extensively linked with a transfer to Stamford Bridge as Mauricio Pochettino seeks to bolster his frontline options.

Dybala, whose contract at the Stadio Olimpico expires in 2025, appeared 25 times for Roma in Serie A last season and contributed directly to 19 goals. The Argentinean international’s impressive performances enabled Jose Mourinho’s side reach the Europa League final and defeat Juventus to earn a top-six finish.

According to Italian journalist Matteo De Santis, as cited by RomaPress, Chelsea is mulling a move for Dybala, who Pochettino has explicitly requested. The report indicates that despite his modest €12 million (£10.3 million) release clause, Roma are unconcerned by Chelsea’s interest and are confident they can retain his services for the upcoming season.

Despite having already brought in Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson this summer, the west Londoners appear to still be on the lookout for more offensive firepower. Silva has referred to Dybala’s prospective arrival in west London as a’massive signing’, despite the fact that the Argentine has struggled with injuries from time to time.

Speaking to Sky Sports during a visit to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday, the veteran defender said, “I saw Paulo Dybala here; Chelsea has been talking about him. I trust he will arrive. I’ve asked him if he will be attending via conversation. He is an exceptional athlete.

“We typically communicate in Spanish or Portuguese. I inquired as to whether he desired to visit Chelsea, but he refused to respond. A champion, he is. If he were to arrive, he would be a tremendous asset.”

While Dybala has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, Mourinho is unaware of a release clause that could result in the loss of his star player this summer. Saturday, upon arrival at Rome airport, the former Chelsea and Tottenham manager addressed the media:

“I don’t know anything about his contract. But obviously I talk to Paulo like I do with all of my players.”

According to Calciomercato, Dybala is willing to reject Premier League interest and sign a new contract with Roma. According to the report, the Italian club intends to increase his base compensation to €6 million (£5.1 million) per season, with €2 million (£1.7 million) in add-ons.

According to reports, Roma would also like to eliminate his release clause, which is €12 million for foreign clubs and €20 million for Italian sides. Shirts bearing Dybala’s name and number have already sold out, so Calciomercato reports that Giallorossi proprietor Dan Friedkin would be pleased to offer him an extension.
