Sick Students to Sit for National Exams After Recovery
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kilifi branch teachers’ association has expressed support for a proposal that suggests allowing sick students taking national exams to recover before taking the exams, rather than administering them in the hospital.
This proposal was put forward by Julius Melly, the chairman of the National Assembly’s Education Committee. Melly argued that it’s unfair to burden students who are unwell and hospitalized with exams, and he proposed offering supplementary exams for these students once they have recuperated.
Opollo K’Opollo, the chairman of the KUPPET Kilifi Teachers branch association, echoed this support, emphasizing that students who fall ill during exams often face difficulties completing their assessments in hospital wards.

Additionally, the chairman urged the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) board to implement effective strategies to ensure that national examinations are delivered to students on time, especially considering the expected El-Nino rains in the country.
For the current year, three national examinations are scheduled: the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) for Grade 6 students, the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
KCSE exams are set to commence on October 23 and conclude on November 24, with rehearsals beginning on October 19.
