School Suspends Students for Eating Extra Bread
Ten students from Voi Boys Secondary School have been suspended for eating extra portions of bread during breakfast.
The suspension was imposed on Monday, and the students were asked to bring a bundle of wheat flour and ten liters of cooking oil as part of their punishment, according to a report by Nation.
Elias Mberi, the parent representative for the school, stated that this disciplinary measure is common in schools nationwide. He believes this will help instill discipline in the students and prevent them from repeating such mistakes.
However, Khalif Hirey, the County Director of Education for Taita Taveta, criticized the school’s decision, stating that alternative disciplinary actions should have been explored. He encouraged the affected parents to report the incident formally, promising a thorough investigation.
In a similar incident in January, Mugoiri Girls High School in Murang’a County suspended 14 students for eating more than one serving of a special lunch, which led to social media protests about what some viewed as a minor violation of school rules.
