School on The Spot For Causing Distress to 2023 KCSE Candidate
Igunga High School in Vihiga County has faced allegations of causing distress to a KCSE exam candidate over unpaid school fees amounting to Sh70,000. The principal, however, has denied these claims.
The student initially faced disciplinary issues and was sent home towards the end of the second term, which were subsequently resolved through the disciplinary committee. She was granted permission to return to school, but on the condition that her outstanding school fee arrears be settled.
When the student and her mother arrived at the school with only Sh10,000 on Friday, they were reportedly turned away and locked out, along with their belongings, due to the incomplete payment.

The student’s father claimed that he was denied access to the school on Monday and sought assistance from the County Education Director, David Koech, and other education officials.
Following a fact-finding mission, Koech directed that the student be allowed to return and take her exams, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing exams and suggesting that the parents work out a plan for settling the arrears.
On Tuesday, the parent was informed that the candidate would be accommodated with the school chaplain, located four kilometers away, for the duration of the exams.
The parents have reached out to Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang’ for intervention to ensure the candidate can take her exams in a conducive environment without undue pressure over fee arrears.
