Rio Ferdinand names a significant Manchester United change under Erik ten Hag, as seen against Reading.
Since Erik ten Hag’s appointment, Manchester United has only been defeated twice at Old Trafford.
Rio Ferdinand is glad that since Erik ten Hag became manager of Manchester United, clubs have ceased “taking liberties” against them at Old Trafford.
In addition to tremendous improvements across the board this season, Ten Hag and his United team have compiled an excellent home record, with only two defeats in all competitions. Brighton defeated United in the Premier League opening, while Real Sociedad triumphed in the Europa League visit in August.
Following those early-season defeats, United have won 14 games and drawn one at Old Trafford, while Reading were defeated in the FA Cup on Saturday night. And it was Reading manager Paul Ince’s post-match press conference that brought Ferdinand to his conclusion.
“Do you know what was the most pleasant thing about that game?” Ferdinand stated on his popular FIVE podcast. It was the news conference that followed.

“Paul Ince was stating that last year if they went to Old Trafford they would have gone there and stated; ‘We can defeat these’. “Under Erik ten Hag, they are treating the game very differently, and I believe you can see that in the way teams come to Old Trafford.” Teams used to come to Old Trafford with their sleeves up, collars up, shirts tucked in, and socks down, thinking, ‘This is it. I’ve come to put myself in the spotlight and build a name for myself here at Old Trafford‘. [They were] experimenting.
“He has now begun to change that. The stadium has a unique feel.”
