Review secondary schools choices for KCPE pupils and revise qualifications for joining TTCs, Magoha told

Let KCPE pupils review secondary schools choices they were selected to join, Magoha Urged.

Education Cabinet Secretary Profesor George Magoha has been asked to let pupils who sat for the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) review the choice of secondary schools they were selected to join.

Speaking at Consolata hospital-Kyeni, Embu Catholic Diocese Bishop Paul Kariuki who also chairs the education services in the county noted that there are widespread complaints that pupils with good results were picked to join schools they deem inferior, and which they did not choose.

Private schools in Embu County have also complained that many of their learners who obtained 300 marks and above were selected to join day schools.

The bishop stated that pupils admitted to schools they do not like are most likely to resort to ill behaviour out of frustration.

“Every student should be placed according to merit and choice, not by their background. I would like the ministry to respond to these complaints so that parents can feel considered, some have serious claims that require ministry’s attention,” Kariuki said.

The cleric further urged the Ministry of Education to consider revising the qualifications for joining teacher training colleges. Currently, the overall grades foining TTCs was raised to C, with C grade on maths, languages, sciences and humanities.
