According to Kericho County Governor Dr. Erick Mutai, teachers of early childhood development education (ECDE) would be employed by the county government on a permanent basis with pension benefits by the end of August.

On June 28, when commissioning ECDE classrooms in local schools, Dr Mutai made a speech at Muringet in the Kepkelion ward and said that his administration will raise the pay of the county’s 1,115 ECDE teachers.

By August, all of our instructors will have contracts that are both permanent and pensionable. In this programme, ECDE teachers who hold a certificate will receive Ksh25,000, while those who hold a diploma or a degree would receive Ksh35,000 and Ksh44,000, respectively. Additionally, our ward supervisor will receive Ksh60,000 per month, he added.

In an effort to increase student enrollment and retention, the governor added that efforts are being made to implement a school food programme for ECDE students.

“We want to feed our children in school, so I’ve given out a tender to build a miller at Kipkelion Ketawa from which we will get higher quality flour that will be used to make porridge for our ECDE students throughout Kericho county,” he stated.

In addition, Dr. Mutai gave 7 million textbooks to the nation’s ECDE students.
