PTE Certificates Are Ready For Collection at Institutions – KNEC
Candidates who took the Primary Teacher Education (PTE) exams in 2022 can now visit their respective colleges to pick up their certificates, according to the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec).
The Teacher Training College (TTC) Principals were instructed by Knec to come to their offices and collect the documents before giving them to the applicants.
“PTE examination certificates for July 2022 are available for pickup. Principals may pick them up personally or designate a designated college representative, who must present an authorised letter from the college as identification before picking them up from the KNEC offices, according to information posted on Knec’s Twitter and Facebook accounts.
However, in order to upgrade their certifications and align them with the new curriculum, teachers will now need to take another step.
The TSC intends to stop hiring PTE teachers because there won’t be any 8.4.4 classes left in elementary schools by the next year, according to the TSC.
Grades 1 through 6 will be offered in primary institutions.
Both P1 and ECDE instructors should take required training in order to meet the requirements of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), according to a taskforce’s recommendation.
The teaching staff desires that the teachers improve their certification to the most recent DPTE (Diploma Primary Teacher Education).
To adapt to the demands of the new curriculum, TSC teachers who want to continue teaching in primary and secondary schools must also complete a one-year mandatory retraining programme.
This is one of the suggestions of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms’ (PWPER) draught report.
In October of last year, the initial cohorts began their training.
In September of this year, the second cohorts began. In response to the low enrollment, just eight TTCs are to be used to train the instructors this year, according to a circular dated October 6, 2022, given to TTC Principals.

The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Education ordered the placement of students to be combined into eight colleges due to the low number of P1 instructors who sought for upgrading.
The PS requested that students in the eight colleges be distributed as follows by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS):
- Murang’a TTC for Meru, Egoji and Kigari TTCs
- Machakos TTC for Kitui, Kilimambogo and Garissa TTCs
- Kericho TTC for Tambach, Baringo and Mosoriot TTCs
- Asumbi TTC for Migori and Kenyenya TTCs
- Kaimosi TTC for Eregi, Seme, Bondo, Ugenya, Bunyore, Bishop Mahon and Chesta TTCs
- Shanzu TTC for Galana and Kwale TTCs
- Aberdare TTC for Narok TTC
- Thogoto TTC for Kamwenja TTC
In accordance with TSC’s Framework, PTE teacher recruitment will come to an end in 2024, and DPTE will take its place as the prerequisite for entering the teaching profession.
Many P1 instructors have not yet enrolled in the programme due to the hefty training costs. Despite not upgrading, the teachers are still hoping to find work.
