Prof Ogechi appointed new Kisii University Vice Chancellor
The appointment of Professor Nathan Ogechi to the position of Vice Chancellor of Kisii University has been approved by Ezekiel Machogu, the Cabinet Secretary for Education.
Machogu made the statement as he was making his remarks during an Interdenominational Church Service in Kisii. President William Ruto was also present at the event, which took place on the grounds of Nyanturago.
Ogechi will take over as pioneer Vice Chancellor at the college from Professor John Akama, who retired about a month ago after leading the institution for the previous 10 years.
Professor Ogechi has worked in the Department of Kiswahili and other African Languages in the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Moi University in a variety of capacities, including as a Graduate Assistant, a Tutorial Fellow, a Lecturer, a Senior Lecturer, an Associate Professor, and a Full Professor.
In addition, he served as the Head of Department for six years, the Dean of School for two years, and the interim Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs for a period of twelve months throughout his time working in university management.

For the past five years, Professor Ogechi has held the position of substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Student Affairs. In addition, since October 2016, he has also held the position of acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, Planning and Development.
Between June of 2000 through November of 2002, he attended the Institute for Asian and African Studies at the University of Hamburg in Hamburg, Germany. There, he earned a doctorate in African Linguistics (“sehr gut”).
Out of the 16 people that applied for the job of Vice Chancellor, the Public Service Commission (PSC) had narrowed the field down to ten highly qualified professors who come from seven different counties for the purpose of conducting interviews.
