Primary School teachers Boycott TSC CSO Jobs; Reasons

Primary school principals are declining to apply for the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) job posting for a Curriculum Support Officer (CSO).

For both regular and special schools, TSC posted job openings for CSO (II) posts late last month. CSO positions were 286 for ordinary schools and 295 for SNE institutions.

A total of 95 positions for Principal Teacher Management Officers (PTMO) were also posted by the Commission.

TSC had to re-advertise the posts due to elementary school headteachers’ failure to submit applications for the CSO positions.

Details show that primary school teachers are purposefully avoiding the position by claiming that there is not enough money on the docket.

The CSO post does not offer lucrative compensation, in the opinion of the headteachers who are in job group C5, making it unattractive.

The P1 headteachers claim that they have elected heads for the Junior Secondary School (JSS) funding (Free Day Secondary Education funding – FDSE), Free Primary Education (FPE), and Homegrown (school feeding scheme).

“The CSO has no money, so they keep going from school to school and begging the principals for a gratuity. One headteacher who requested anonymity remarked, “I can’t leave a position where I have money to a position where I will start begging.
