Primary School Cook who Defiled ECDE Learner Sentenced For 30 Years

A 20-year-old male in Eldoret has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after confessing to sexually assaulting a five-year-old Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) student.

The convict, Eliakim Kemboi, also known as Elias, had been working as a cook at a private primary school and admitted to the disturbing act in a classroom. Shockingly, he worked alongside the child’s mother at the school.

Elias, who is visually impaired, was accused of committing this crime on August 29, 2023, in the Moiben area of Uasin Gishu County. He faced charges of engaging in an indecent act with a minor.

The defendant claimed that he undressed the child in the classroom before the mother arrived, but a medical examination report from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital confirmed the assault.

In her ruling, Eldoret Senior Court Judge Caroline Wattimah emphasized that Elias’s actions, regardless of whether he proceeded further when the mother entered, clearly indicated ill intentions.

The defendant has been granted a fourteen-day window to file an appeal against the prison sentence.
