Pochettino Receives £65m Message Impacting Three Chelsea Stars Amid Cherki Chase
The Blues have been exhorted to find a replacement for Mason Mount, and Mauricio Pochettino has four potential candidates in mind.
Mauricio Pochettino has been informed of the importance of Chelsea identifying a suitable replacement for Mason Mount.
Mauricio Pochettino has been informed that it is crucial that someone steps up to occupy Mason Mount’s shoes after his £55 million transfer to Manchester United.
Chelsea have sold four first-team midfielders this summer, including Mount, and have yet to make a significant midfield addition despite pursuing Brighton sensation Moises Caicedo.
Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei, and Andrey Santos all played in midfield against Wrexham, demonstrating that the Blues have a number of potential replacements already on the roster.
Pochettino’s senior team plans may include a prominent role for the trio based on their performance in the preseason match.
Evening Standard reports that Pochettino is leaning towards keeping Santos in west London for the 2023/24 season, while Casadei could depart on loan again and is a Leicester target.
Mount’s departure from his boyhood club was marred by controversy, as a contract dispute plagued the previous six months before it became evident he could not return.
After face-to-face negotiations, Chelsea accepted Manchester United’s third offer of £55 million for his signature.
Joe Cole, a former Chelsea player, has given his opinion on Mount’s departure and what the club must do to replace him effectively.
Cole, speaking with TNT Sports, stated:
“I think Chelsea will miss Mason on the pitch because of his ability, but also off the pitch because of what he means to the club as a leader and a player that came through the ranks.
“I’m not sure we’ll ever know the full story around the contract situation and the package that was offered to him, only Chelsea, Mason and his team know what it was but they couldn’t get a deal done for whatever reason.
“He’s left a big hole and there’s a gap to fill. There’s always comings and goings at clubs but someone’s going to have to step up and fill his boots.”
Lyon ace Rayan Cherki is another candidate to fill the vacancy left by Mount as Chelsea searches for a more creative player for the 2023/24 season.
Chelsea have held discussions with Cherki’s representatives and Lyon regarding a potential transfer after the French club set their asking price for Cherki at €50 million (£42.7 million), although Chelsea believe a deal could be reached for closer to €40 million (£35.7 million).
