Rural Teachers Benefit from Harmonized House Allowances
Teachers residing in rural areas will see substantial improvements in their financial situations. This is due to the harmonization of house allowances across the country, organized into four clusters.
House Allowance Based on Clusters
Within the new allowances framework, a grade B5 teacher’s house allowance will be determined by their cluster location. For instance, those in cluster one, which includes Nairobi, will receive Ksh. 6,750, while cluster 2 areas like Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyeri, Eldoret, Thika, Kisii, Malindi, and Kitale will grant Ksh. 4,400. Cluster 3, encompassing former municipalities, will provide Ksh. 3,850, and the same amount applies to all other regions in the country.
Chief Principals’ House Allowances
In the case of Chief Principals, residing in Nairobi will yield a house allowance of Ksh. 50,000, while those in Cluster 2 will receive Ksh. 35,000, Cluster 3 will grant Ksh. 25,000, and Cluster 4 will provide Ksh. 21,000.
