Professor Elijah Omwenga, the Vice Chancellor of the Open University of Kenya (OUK), has extended an open invitation to the public for course applications in the upcoming October/November intake. OUK is offering a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs for prospective students.
The undergraduate courses available for the intake include Bachelor of Data Science, Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, Bachelor of Business and Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Economics and Statistics, and Bachelor of Technology Education. For those interested in postgraduate studies, OUK is providing Postgraduate Diplomas in Leadership and Accountability, and Learning Design and Technology.
To be eligible for these programs, aspiring students must meet specific entry requirements, which can be summarized as follows:
For undergraduate programs, candidates should have a mean grade of C+ or higher at KCSE (Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education) or its equivalent. Alternatively, they can present a diploma, a professional qualification from recognized institutions, a KCSE certificate, or equivalent coupled with a foundational certificate, a bridging course from recognized institutions, a Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education with a minimum of one Principal and Subsidiary Pass, or evidence of a KCSE certificate or equivalent, along with a portfolio highlighting relevant work experience, workplace training of two years, or the completion of two short courses lasting at least three months each in a relevant field. Additionally, Senate-recognized qualifications and a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution are also considered valid entry routes.

Application procedures are specified for prospective students based on their qualifications. Those meeting the first entry criterion can submit their applications online through the KUCCPS portal, while individuals interested in bachelor’s programs based on the 2nd to 7th criteria and postgraduate programs should apply through the OUK admissions portal.
The announcement extends a warm welcome to international students from neighboring countries and beyond to experience OUK’s educational offerings. Importantly, no application fee will be charged for admission for the academic year 2023/2024.
A significant benefit for OUK learners is the opportunity to access the government’s funding model for higher education, making them eligible for scholarships and loans to support their academic pursuits.
