‘One of the best ever’: Ten Hag confesses admiration for Man United’s £100m target
Erik ten Hag believes that Harry Kane can become “possibly the best striker in Premier League history,” while Manchester United appears unlikely to acquire the Tottenham Hotspur star.
Sir Alex Ferguson once remarked that doing business with Daniel Levy, chairman of Spurs, was more excruciating than his hip replacement.
And while Harry Kane would have been the type of signing capable of immediately elevating Ten Hag’s squad to an entirely new level, who can blame Manchester United for deciding that engaging in months-long negotiations with one of soccer’s most slippery deal-makers was not worth the trouble?

Man United manager Erik Ten Hag is an avid admirer of Harry Kane.
United determined early in the transfer window that attempting to lure Kane away from Spurs would be comparable to waging a losing battle.
Even if United had met Tottenham’s £100 million asking price, it is unlikely that Levy would have agreed to sell his star player to a direct Premier League rival, according to The Times.
The subsequent £64 million agreement with Atalanta poacher Rasmus Hojlund should put an end to any lingering expectations of a deal for England international Harry Kane, despite Ten Hag’s continued admiration for the player.
“I have to respect the club and the player,” Ten Hag told the Daily Mail, praising the Premier League’s second-most prolific goalscorer of all time while refusing to comment on the ‘Kane to Old Trafford’ rumors.
“I have huge respect because he is a great striker. One of the best ever. Maybe he can even be the best striker ever in the Premier League.”
Bayern is calling.
Kane requires just 47 goals to tie Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals in competition.
At the age of 30, however – Kane celebrated his birthday last week with a towering, nostalgia-inducing cake – the Tottenham icon must now decide whether he would prefer to make history in England, or finally end his trophy drought in Germany, as Bayern Munich inch closer to an agreement with the Spurs’ management (Daily Mail).
