New Salary Scale For Primary School Teachers Per Job Group
Primary school teachers in Kenya handle learners between grade one to six, typically aged 6 to 11 years old. The teachers have their salary processed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) according to their respective job groups
TSC’s new grading system has led to positive outcomes, including increased salaries for graduate teachers.
Previously, teachers were categorized under job groups G, J, K, L, M, N, and P. However, the new system involves regrouping.
New Salary Scale for Primary School Teachers
1. Job group P – Grade D1: This includes primary school headteachers in both day and boarding schools nationwide. Their new salary range is Ksh. 77,840 to Ksh. 93,408.
2. Job group N – Grade C5: Primary headteachers from schools with fewer students were moved to grade C5 along with deputy headteachers. They will earn between Ksh. 62,272 and Ksh. 77,840.
3. Job group M – Grade C4: Deputy headteachers in day schools were promoted to grade C4. They will now receive a salary ranging from Ksh. 52,308 to Ksh. 65,385.
4. Job group L – Grade C3: Teachers in job group L, also known as senior teacher I, will now earn between Ksh. 43,154 and Ksh. 55,945.
5. Job group K – Grade C2: Senior primary teachers who were upgraded to this grade, primarily focusing on special needs education, will receive a new pay scale of Ksh. 34,955 to Ksh. 43,694.
6.Job group J – Grade C1: Teachers in This Job group will experience a pay increase, with earnings ranging from Ksh. 27,195 to Ksh. 33,994.
7. Job group G – Grade B5: Job group G, previously designated for entry-level P1 teachers, has been replaced. All teachers in this category were automatically upgraded to grade B5. Their new salary range is Ksh. 21,756 to Ksh. 27,195, which now serves as the salary for P1 teachers in Kenya.
