Lake Baringo Secondary School’s dormitory has been razed. a total of six schools that have encountered fire occurrences in Baringo County alone.
Lake Baringo Secondary is among the learning institutions that were swamped by the swelling Lake Baringo last year. Well-wishers including the Kenya Red Cross distributed tents to accommodate some 77 boys.
Since school resumption in January, fire incidences have been recorded at Kituro, Barwesa, Timboroa, Kipcherere, Muchongoi and Lake Baringo secondary schools in Baringo County.
Police said that they have started investigations to ascertain the root of the fire that destroyed the temporary boys’ dormitory at Lake Baringo Secondary on Wednesday night.
“No one was injured during the fire incident but the boys lost all their belongings including mattresses, uniforms, books and other personal items,” said the Baringo North sub-county Police Commander Fredrick Odinga.
Conflicting reports claimed that the fire was started by students while a teacher at the school hinted at an electrical fault.
Muchongoi Secondary School Fire
In another incident, close to 100 students at Muchongoi Secondary School spent Wednesday night in the cold after a fire razed their dormitory.
The root of the fire was not immediately established but there were allegations that students might have started it.
