MP threatens to impeach Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.
The Member of Parliament for Kwanza Constituency Ferdinand Wanyonyi has threatened to begin the process of impeaching Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha.
Speaking on Saturday while handing over a Ksh6 million cheque to the St. Augustine Maziwa Board of Management, the lawmaker claimed that the Education CS Magoha is heading the Ministry of Education in the wrong way.
“Magoha has been giving misplaced directives that we shall have to deal with for the sake of our children’s future,” the MP said faulting the ministry and the government’s 100% transition.
The transition, he said, is not realistic in the Kenyan education system.
“I’m greatly opposed to the American system of 100% transition, it is affecting our academic standards, Magoha, if you are listening to me that is wrong,” Wanyonyi added.
Wanyonyi claimed that the 100% transition has led to congestion of learners in classrooms, endangering them to the COVID-19 virus.
“I am told that St. Monicah Girls which has a capacity of less than 200 students is required to admit 622 students, a number that is equivalent to 8 new classes, where do I get these classrooms?” he asked.
His sentiments were echoed by Trans Nzoia Parents Association chairperson Wellington Waliaula who said a majority of learning institutions lack adequate infrastructure to accommodate learners.
“As we speak, the classrooms and desks are inadequate in many schools, the government has only provided books. Where will those books be kept?” posed asked.
Early in July, MPs led by Baringo Central lawmaker Joshua Kandie, admonished CS Magoha over the directive Against Using School Buses On Non-Academic Functions noting that the buses have been bought by NG-CDF money.
“I am ready to mobilize all members of parliament so that we do an impeachment for him (CS George Magoha). I will make sure we start the process of removing him from the Ministry of Education,” Kandie stated.
