Moses Kuria Announces 2,000 Jobs for Kenyans With US Data Firm
The Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, led by Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, has announced an extensive set of job opportunities in collaboration with a prominent US multinational corporation. In an official statement, Mr. Kuria revealed that Sama, formerly known as Samasource, is planning to hire over 2,000 Kenyan individuals.
This hiring initiative includes an immediate intake of 600 Kenyan professionals within the current week, with an additional 1,500 candidates expected to join over the next two weeks.
The decision comes after discussions between Mr. Kuria and Wendy Gonzelez, CEO of the renowned global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) giant Samasource.
This move is aligned with recent government efforts to create one million BPO jobs in Kenya, with a focus on computer vision artificial intelligence (AI) positions. The multinational corporation has announced its intention to employ Kenyan youth for computer vision technology projects serving top Fortune 500 companies.

A press invitation from the corporation indicates that they will launch a youth training and empowerment initiative, in line with the government’s goal of fostering employment in the digital economy. Sama will officially announce the hiring of Kenyan youth for various computer vision projects for leading Fortune 500 companies.
The training sessions will be held in Nairobi and will feature prominent figures such as Eng John Kipchumba Tanui, the Principal Secretary of the State Department of ICT and the Digital Economy, and Annepeace Alwala, Vice President of Sama Global Service Delivery.
The significant influx of approximately one million graduates into the job market each year has contributed to high unemployment rates. To combat this issue, the government has introduced various programs and initiatives to promote self-employment as a viable alternative.
One of these initiatives involves the establishment of an outsourcing hub, facilitating foreign companies in hiring employees from Kenya. This strategic move aims to provide opportunities for Kenyan workers and address the challenges of high unemployment rates.
