The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has revealed that 1,225,693 candidates have registered for the KCPE in 2021, while 831,026 will take the KCSE this year.
The enrollments constitute a significant increase over the previous year’s candidate population.
In comparison to last year, 34,085 more candidates will sit for the KCPE this year, representing a 2.86 per cent increase. There were 1,191,608 candidates who registered for the 2020 KCPE.
The 2021 Kenya certificate of secondary class has seen a significant increase in enrollment over last year, with 78,424 more candidates taking the secondary exam, representing a 10.42 per cent increase. 752,602 people registered for the 2020 KCSE final exam.
Dr David Njeng’ere, chief executive officer of KNEC, says adequate plans have been put in place to ensure the exams are held in accordance with the Government calendar.
Preparation for this year’s national exams is well underway, with the council having begun training teachers on how to grade the exams.
The training took place between October 3 and 9, and the successful trainees will be added to the KNEC examiners’ database.
Primary school teachers were received training to be examiners for composition and Insha papers, while secondary school teachers were trained to mark Languages, Biology, Chemistry, History and Government, Agriculture, and Christian Religious Education.
The KCPE exam will be administered between March 4 and March 9, 2022.
The KCSE exam, on the other hand, will be held from February 28 to April 1, 2022.
Despite registering for the KCPE 2020, twelve thousand, four hundred and sixteen (12,416) candidates did not take the national exam.
Despite enrolling in the KCSE 9,373 students did not take the exam.
The candidates missed the exams due to the Covid-19 crisis, early marriage, and adolescent pregnancy, according to the Ministry of Education.
