Brighton has rejected multiple proposals from Chelsea for the Ecuadorian international, including one worth £80 million.

Liverpool entered the race to sign Caicedo this week and have conducted extensive negotiations with Brighton over the midfielder’s £100 million price tag.

The Times reports that Caicedo is currently in London because he wants to join Chelsea as soon as feasible.

However, according to the report, Jurgen Klopp is eager to speak with Caicedo to assist Liverpool convince the 21-year-old to move to Anfield instead.

The Telegraph reports that Liverpool ‘face an uphill battle’ to persuade Caicedo to reject a move to Chelsea, as it has been ‘clear for weeks’ that the midfielder desires to move to Stamford Bridge.

According to the report, Chelsea intends to submit an improved offer for £90 million plus an additional £10 million in incentives, which matches Brighton’s £100 million asking price.

Chelsea hoped to reach an agreement with Brighton prior to Sunday’s Premier League opener against Liverpool.

Liverpool’s top transfer target of the past week, Romeo Lavia, has been the subject of a £48 million proposal from Mauricio Pochettino’s side to Southampton.
