Mohamed Salah’s reacts to Liverpool’s denial of a new deal
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp advised Mohamed Salah to “let it flow” as the forward approaches a milestone appearance.
Jurgen Klopp has instructed Mohamed Salah to “let it flow” as the Liverpool forward approaches a milestone afternoon in the midst of a goal-scoring slump.
Today, at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Salah is poised to make his 200th league appearance for Liverpool, hoping to equal the club record for goals scored in that span, having already scored 125 goals in the Premier League.
After 200 appearances, the Egyptian has scored two more goals than Roger Hunt and three more than Ian Rush. He needs one more goal in his next match to match Gordon Hodgson’s total.

While Salah, who signed a rich new deal in the summer, has scored 17 goals this season, he has scored only once in his previous seven games and was responsible for a horrible miss in the FA Cup fourth round loss to Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend.
However, Klopp has supported the 30-year-old and is optimistic he will soon return to scoring form.
“Attitude is not Mo’s problem,” said the Reds boss. “He is a world-class athlete. He is the first in and last out and works hard. Now he is not scoring but I think there are people out there who say ‘why did they give Klopp a new contract?’. This is the world we live and it is completely fine.
“When we don’t deliver in moments there is criticism. You can question character, knowledge, ability, everything. But you cannot score the goals Mo has scored if you are not an outstanding, world class footballer. Even then you can’t do that constantly.
“He must simply let it flow. There were times last year when he would have scored. In the Brighton match, 100% of the time it is now a goal. You believe this has to do with the new contract? That is not acceptable.”
Erling Haaland of Manchester City, Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur, and Marcus Rashford of Manchester United are the only Premier League players with more club goals than Salah this season.
And Klopp continued, “Things are as they are, and the only way to stop all these questions is to play at our highest level, which we will do. We will perform the task. It will not occur immediately. We took steps. It is not as though what we stated four weeks ago was meaningless and we learned nothing. We are truly on track and optimistic.
“We want to play the games and we believe in our chance of doing something special, even this year. We will not be the leader of the pack at the moment but we are in a position where we can improve a lot. We play tomorrow and start from there.”
Due to Ibrahima Konate’s absence, Joel Matip is expected to rejoin Joe Gomez at center-back. Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and Curtis Jones are all battling for a midfield spot, while Darwin Nunez is pushing for an attacking position. Fabio Carvalho and Nat Phillips, who were unavailable last weekend due to injury and illness, are now available again.
