MoE & MoH to Introduce Reproductive Health in the School Curriculum

A curriculum will be implemented by the Ministry of Education and Health (MoH) to assist pupils in understanding reproductive health.

The implementation of a curriculum that instructs pupils about reproductive health is being done in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.

A life skills curriculum is being developed by the Ministries of Health and Education to give students a thorough understanding of reproductive health.

On Thursday, June 22, in Diani, Kenya, the sixth annual scientific conference on adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health rights (ASRHR) was held.

According to Edward Serem, director of the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) Maternal and Reproductive Health Division, the government has taken the required actions to address concerns affecting girls, women, and young people.

Stakeholders claim that the previous 8-4-44 curriculum in Kenya only provided a cursory discussion of reproductive health in science-based disciplines.

“We are currently reviewing the comprehensive strategy to deliver age-appropriate, culturally acceptable information, including abstinence, prevention of HIV, STIs, and leverage on life skills education for adults and youths in schools and out of school, including tertiary,” added Serem.
