MKU Former Students With Fee Balance Asked to Collect Certificates

As of right now, Mount Kenya University (MKU) is allowing former students who previously graduated from the school but were unable to pick up their certificates because of unpaid fees to do so.

The University’s founder, Simon Gicharu, said at the 23rd Graduation on Friday, August 4 that all fines had been paid and that students could pick up their diplomas for no charge.

“I would like to declare that all fines have been waived on behalf of the Board of Directors. All former students may now visit and pick up their certificates without having to pay anything, thanks to our write-off of the Sh80 million, Gicharu remarked.

Gicharu claimed that the board made the choice to let students pursue their jobs.

We don’t want to be a barrier to you being able to open the unlimited possibilities, he continued, in keeping with the university’s motto of “Unlocking Infinite Possibilities.”

6,108 students were successful in completing their education at the university. There were 2,970 women and 3,138 graduates among them.

Gicharu urged the graduates to take control of their lives and pass on the priceless knowledge and experiences they had while attending MKU.

Deo Jaganyi, vice chancellor of MKU, expressed appreciation to the graduates’ parents, guardians, sponsors, employees, and other supporters who helped them during their academic careers.

Jaganyi emphasised the University’s tenacity and dedication to providing a variety of academic programmes, which was demonstrated by the enrollment of 54,138 students for the semester of January through April 2023 and 54,522 students for the semester of May through August 2023.

Karim Khan, the legal advisor to President William Ruto, received an honorary doctorate from the university at the same occasion. In the post-election violence case, he defended Ruto in the Hague.

His extensive knowledge of human rights and international criminal law, his commitment to community engagement for the advancement of education and social progress, his involvement in the fight against terrorism, his substantial research and publications, and his numerous appointments and honours are all cited as reasons for his recognition.

Khan succeeded Fatou Bensouda as the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in June 2021.
