Ministry Of Education Warns All Teachers Against This Activity ,Calls For Discipline
On another occasion, the Ministry of Education has issued a stern warning to teachers regarding unauthorized remedial classes. The ministry has taken a strong stance against the problems afflicting educational institutions, including the unauthorized practice of conducting remedial classes and charging fees for them. This warning follows remarks made by PS Kipsang during a recent gathering. While addressing an audience at Shimo la Tewa Secondary School on September 19th, Kipsang raised questions about these extra teaching sessions, often disguised as remedial classes.
He emphasized that the regular teaching hours established by the ministry are sufficient for teachers to impart skills and knowledge to students. He also expressed concerns about the financial burden placed on parents due to unsanctioned classes, which cast a shadow over such programs. It’s worth noting that this warning coincides with the ongoing preparations for the national exams, namely the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). KCPE and KCSE are scheduled to begin on October 30, 2023, and November 3, 2023, respectively, with KCSE concluding on November 24, 2023.

To combat examination malpractice, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued directives aimed at preventing contracted professionals, assessors, and examiners from engaging in activities that could compromise their roles. These directives underscore the importance of maintaining confidentiality, restricting their involvement in activities that may lead to conflicts of interest or reveal their status as KNEC examiners. Additionally, the council has instructed all contracted professionals to refrain from conducting workshops in schools to ensure the integrity of the examination process remains untarnished.
