Ministry of Education Release 2024 School Calendar
The Ministry of Education has released the school calendar for 2024, outlining schedules for pre-primary, primary, secondary schools, and teachers’ training colleges. The calendar, dated October 13 and issued by Director General Elyas Abdi, sets out the following terms and breaks:
First Term
– Starts on January 8, 2024
– Ends on April 5, 2024
– Mid-term break: February 29 to March 3, 2024
– Three-week holiday: April 6 to April 26, 2024
Second Term
– Begins on April 29, 2024
– Lasts for 14 weeks until August 2, 2024
– Mid-term break: June 20 to June 23, 2024
– Three-week holiday: August 5 to August 25, 2024
Third Term
– Commences on August 26, 2024
– Spans nine weeks, concluding on October 25, 2024

National Exams:
– Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) exams: October 28 to 31, 2024
– Note: KCPE exams will not be conducted as the 8-4-4 education system at the primary school level is being phased out.
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams
– Scheduled from November 4 to November 22, 2024
A long holiday will follow, starting on October 28, 2024, and lasting until January 3, 2025.
Teachers’ training colleges will also follow a three-term system with similar term and holiday dates as schools. Term one starts on January 8, 2024, and concludes on April 5, 2024, with a three-week holiday from April 8 to 26. Term two begins on April 29, 2024, and extends until August 2, with another holiday planned from August 5 to 30. The third term for teachers’ training colleges will open on August 26, running until November 8, before teachers and students embark on an extended holiday from November 11 to January 3, 2025.
