Ministry of Education begins plan to construct 10000 classrooms across the country
The Ministry of Education has begun plans to build 10,000 classrooms across the country, according to Dr Julius Jwan, Principal Secretary for Early Learning and Basic Education.
Dr Jwan went on to say that his Ministry was on track to implement President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive during Mashujaa Day celebrations to build extra classrooms in all sub-counties in order to accommodate more students in public schools.

“We have already analyzed the needs of our schools and have already indicated the number of classrooms that the specific schools are going to get out of the 10,000 in every sub-county,” he said.
Speaking during a tour of Nanyuki High School in Laikipia County on Friday, the PS also stated that the construction of the additional classrooms would be handled as part of the Economic Stimulus package, with local contractors in the sub-counties carrying out the work to stimulate rural economies.

He went on to say that his ministry would advertise for tenders to build the classrooms within the next week so that construction could begin right away.
The PS also revealed that investigations into a fire that killed one learner at Thome Secondary School in Laikipia Central Sub County had begun.
“Security personnel are working closely with our education officials seeking to get to the bottom of the matter and know what caused the inferno,” the PS said.
A form two student was killed in a fire that broke out at midnight while the students were sleeping. Since then, the school has been closed indefinitely.
The incident occurred only three weeks after students at the learning institution went on a rampage and destroyed property. This is the county’s fourth school to be burned down in recent weeks, following Loise Girls’ High School, Muramati Secondary, and St Augustine Sirma Secondary School.
