Ministry Of Education Bans these Exams In All Schools
In an effort to improve the learning environment for pupils, the Ministry of Education has reinforced the ban on mock and joint exams in all institutions.
The move, according to Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang in a letter to County Directors of Education, is intended to address the increased instances of school unrest brought on by a poor learning environment.
He ordered all schools to stop holding any inter-school exams, claiming that doing so would conflict with the academic schedule.
The PS further instructed all County and Sub-County Directors of Education to ensure that the new direction was followed by all schools under their control.
Kipsang said in a letter dated July 6, 2023, “The purpose of this circular is to ask you to bring this to the attention of all schools within your jurisdiction and take corrective measures to stop any occurrence.”
Kipsang claims that the decision was reached following discussions with the Special Investigation Team and the Parliamentary Committee on Education.

The two teams, led by David Koech and Claire Omollo, noted that strikes were frequently brought on by mock tests, especially in boarding schools.
In a previous statement, the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (Kessha) endorsed the prohibition on mock exams. Instead of blaming the discontent in schools solely on mock exams, the association urged the Education Ministry to take more steps to mainstream the education sector.
