Ministry of Education Bans These Exams From All Schools

The Ministry of Education, led by Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, has taken a bold step to address concerns about school unrest by enforcing a ban on mock and joint examinations in educational institutions. This decision aims to directly tackle the issue at hand.

The ministry has issued a stern advisory to schools, urging them to refrain from organizing inter-school examinations to avoid disruptions to the academic calendar. This prohibition was crafted after extensive consultations with the Parliamentary Committee on Education and the Special Investigation Team, chaired by David Koech and Claire Omollo, respectively.

The Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) has expressed full support for the ban on joint mock exams and has called for additional strategies to instill discipline in the education sector. KESSHA has also raised concerns about the commercialization of mock exams by certain schools, emphasizing the need for comprehensive reforms.

It is crucial to consider the long-term implications of this prohibition on the education sector. The proposal to introduce CATs as a replacement for mock exams seeks to address concerns of fairness and commercialization.
