Medical Experts Have Revealed What is Ailing Eregi Girls

Medical experts have suggested that students at St. Theresa’s Eregi Girls in Kakamega County may be experiencing panic attacks, specifically a condition known as hysteria. Recent tests conducted on samples collected from the school have ruled out any infections, dispelling initial suspicions.

The students displayed symptoms such as weak limbs and difficulty walking. Kakamega County Health Executive, Dr. Bernard Wesonga, has indicated that the students who fell ill on Monday and Tuesday before being admitted might have developed psychological complications.

According to Dr. Wesonga, the learners’ condition could be attributed to a psychological problem called hysteria. The tests conducted failed to detect any pathogens that would indicate an infection.

“We conducted culture and sensitivity tests on the students admitted to local hospitals, and there were no infections whatsoever. The children were suffering from psychological problems that could have caused panic among them,” explained Dr. Wesonga.

He further explained that it is possible for students to experience immobility and weakness in their limbs, especially when they are in a state of panic. Addressing this issue requires providing guidance and counseling to help them cope with their psychological struggles.

As of Wednesday, the number of Eregi Girls students admitted to various hospitals in Kakamega County had risen from 95 to 106. Some positive news emerged as 46 students were discharged and allowed to return home on Thursday, while 60 others continue to be under observation by medical professionals.

The situation at St. Theresa’s Eregi Girls School has raised concerns and prompted medical investigations to ensure the well-being of the students. While infections have been ruled out, it is essential to provide the necessary psychological support and care to help the affected learners overcome their challenges.
