Chelsea’s pursuit of a new first-string forward for Mauricio Pochettino has led them to continue discussions with Juventus regarding striker Dusan Vlahovic.
The Blues have already acquired Nicolas Jackson, a Senegalese rookie, and Christopher Nkunku, a versatile attacker, but they are still searching for a proven goalscorer. Now, Italian journalist Rudy Galetti writes that Chelsea will conduct talks with the player and that a price tag of £68 million (approximately $87 million) has been set.
He writes: “Vlahovic, Chelsea and Juventus are about to begin negotiations. Without UCL, the Italian club must transfer him and has already set a price: around €80 million. Pochettino desires the Serbian striker; situation evolving.”
In addition, he stated, “Everything has been verified since mid-June: Chelsea is interested in Vlahovic and has begun negotiations with Juventus. In the coming days, discussions will proceed. Pochettino views Dusan as the perfect striker.”
Nationspy asserts that this situation is familiar. As their goal-scoring woes continue to deteriorate, Chelsea is searching for a proven Italian striker. Romelu Lukaku joins Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain in the category of transfers gone wrong.
Even though Vlahovic has displayed tremendous skill and quality, it’s difficult to shake the sense that Juventus could be beaten by Chelsea once again, despite Vlahovic’s impressive play. The Blues believe he still has his best years ahead of him, as he is only 23 years old, and he fits the profile of a prospective Pochettino addition; however, there is concern with every high-profile striker joining the club.
Jackson, however, is an unknown quantity and is unlikely to immediately cover a void that must be filled immediately for Pochettino’s first season to be successful. With Vlahovic, he would undoubtedly discover a player who becomes irreplaceable and incredibly important; however, it is difficult to predict how this would translate into goals.
Moises Caicedo dread
Moises Caicedo is reportedly concerned that he will be priced out of a summer transfer to Chelsea. The 21-year-old has given his approval for a transfer to the Blues but must now await an agreement between the institutions.
Caicedo is reportedly concerned that Chelsea will fail to match Brighton’s valuation and that he will be left without a club. The Seagulls are demanding £100 million ($128 million) for the player after Declan Rice’s transfer to Arsenal dictated the market for midfielders.
Caicedo has already demonstrated he is prepared to go rogue in order to obtain a transfer, according to Nationspy, as he effectively submitted a transfer request in January. Having agreed, however, that he will be transferred this summer, Chelsea have more leverage than it may appear.
Brighton demonstrated with Alexis Mac Allister that signing a new contract does not inherently preclude an easy deal, as Caicedo has done. Caicedo is eager to transfer to London now that Manchester United and Arsenal have moved on to other midfielders, and Chelsea have free reign to pursue him.
All indications point to a deal being reached, and that should really help matters advance. It remains to be seen whether the stalemate will last long enough for one side to capitulate before preseason, but it is evident that it is in the best interests of all parties to reach a compromise this window in order to complete a transfer.
