Mateo Kovacic Reveals Strong Desire for Josko Gvardiol to Join Manchester City
Man City is negotiating a deal to make Gvardiol their second acquisition of the summer.
Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol may become club and international colleagues.
Mateo Kovacic confesses that he would be thrilled if international teammate Josko Gvardiol joined him at Manchester City this summer.
Triple victorious Kovacic has joined the club from Chelsea for an initial £25 million.
He is the only new addition to City’s roster during the current transfer window.
The Croatian international’s preseason performances under Pep Guardiola have already caught the eye, and it appears that he will play a crucial role for the team in the upcoming season.
The 29-year-old Kovacic has swiftly adjusted to life at his new club, and he may soon be joined by his international teammate Gvardiol as City looks to bolster its defensive options.
Kovacic believes he would be a welcome addition to the squad this summer if he were to join City from RB Leipzig, with whom they continue to negotiate a potential transfer.
“Of course I’d like him to join,”The midfielder informed Seoul-based reporters.
“I know he’s very young and has great potential. He can come here and learn and be the best version of himself, like he wants to be for sure.
“But it’s not for me to comment if it’s going to happen or not. I’d obviously like it – I’m a good friend with him and he’s Croatian. It would be nice to have a Croatian by my side here.”
Gvardiol is one of the most highly regarded defenders in Europe, but at the age of 21, he may need some time to adjust to the Premier League if he moves there.
Having Kovacic as a teammate could help him adjust swiftly to his potential new surroundings, but City’s midfielder is unconcerned about his ability to fit in.
