Manchester United wants to sign “king of the penalty area” Alongside Hojlund – Exclusive Report

The forward from Santos could be recruited alongside Rasmus Hojlund.

According to reports from Italy, Manchester United are now in the running to acquire Santos striker Marcos Leonardo, but they may need to act swiftly as AS Roma are also vying for his signature.

What are the most recent Man United transfer news?

As reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Atalanta’s signing of striker Rasmus Hojlund has been finalized, and the transaction was announced over the weekend.

It will cost United £64m plus £8m in add-ons, with the striker consenting to a five-year deal, bringing an end to Man United’s pursuit of a top striker, which has been one of manager Erik ten Hag’s top priorities for some time.

Despite having already agreed to a deal for Hojlund, United are still interested in acquiring additional attacking options, with reports from Italy indicating they are “very vigilant” regarding the situation surrounding Leonardo (via Sport Witness).

The Red Devils may have to act quickly if they want to bring the 20-year-old to Old Trafford, as they have been linked with a move recently, albeit in the background as they’ve focused on the Hojlund transfer.

The Serie A club has no intention of abandoning their pursuit of the youngster, so United will face fierce competition if they wish to pursue a deal now that they have entered the fray.

Roma appear to be in the lead for the Santos star, having contacted the Brazilian club three days ago to negotiate a deal, and Roma’s director of football, Tiago Pinto, is determined to get a deal done.

Who is Leonardo Marcos?

The Brazilian phenom has spent his entire professional career with Santos, establishing himself with a stellar goal-scoring record of 13 goals in 35 matches during the 2022 Brazilian Serie A season.

This season, the teenager is on track to surpass that tally in front of goal, having scored six goals in 12 appearances and registering two assists.

Jacek Kulig, a football talent scout, has praised the forward as “the king of the penalty area” and stated that he “has all the tools to become an absolute killer,” indicating that he poses a significant offensive threat.

However, there are doubts as to whether the Santos star would be a fruitful signing for United, given that he does not contribute much else to his team, averaging just 13.47 passes per 90 over the past year, which places him in the sixth percentile among players of a similar level.

Leonardo is a bit of a poacher and could be a decent option for Ten Hag to use as a substitute when Manchester United are chasing a game, but he is probably not a necessary signing.

Given that a deal for Hojlund has been completed, United are now replete with offensive options, and Ten Hag should now concentrate on bolstering other areas of his squad.
